Making Popcorn Balls
Don't be surprised when you make these and they get
gobbled up! A lot of folks won't attempt popcorn
balls because they think they're hard to make or a
big mess. It's worth any effort of mess. And you'll
be amazed at the difference in making your own
"fresh" popcorn balls and the stale, tasteless ones
you can buy at stores.
All you really need is a good candy thermometer and
you'll be a popcorn ball making expert. You can pick
one up at any kitchen supply store or grocery store.
Even discount stores have them. You can even order
one online at Walmart or Target.
Don't be intimidated because it seems like an ordeal
- these are really easy, delicious and a good source
of fiber.
We don't own a microwave, so we pop organic popcorn
on the stove to make these. Absolutely yummy!
My kids take these in their lunches too. Sometimes,
when it's their turn to bring snack we make them,
only a smaller size - a little bigger than a golf
ball.
Ingredients For Popcorn Balls
8 to 10 cups popped popcorn
1 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon butter
Dash of salt
2-3 drops food coloring
How ToMix ingredients to soft ball stage
(225F on candy thermometer & 234 F at sea level).
Pour over one batch of popped popcorn quickly and
mix well. If you overcook, it will have a more
gritty sugar texture.
Form into balls and wrap
individually. A great snack, party favor or camping
food idea!
