The Best Way to Play

Little Bill and his friends want to be good 'Space Explorers', and all it will take is a $50 video game. Or so they think.

Strangely enough, the children find their parents are less then enthusiastic to spend money on the latest 'gotta have' item. While planning how to cope with this change in plans, however, Andrew turns up with the desired item. Little Bill and friends quickly make tracks to Andrew's house for the adventure of a lifetime.

To everyone's surprise, the video game looses it's appeal after all the kids have a turn. All is not lost, though. The friends decide that they can still have fun playing 'Space Explorers' in the neighborhood lot. They learn the video game was not so fun after a few rounds, but imagination provides a new game every time.

This is a wonderful book for young readers. The 'gotta have it now' situation Little Bill finds himself in is one familiar to parent and child alike. Mr. Cosby handles it wonderfully, agreeing that the latest fad often is exciting, but it does not always live up to expectations. Without lecturing, he manages to show children they already have all they need for hours of fun.
