The Very Hungry Caterpillar

From Eric Carles Very series comes The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This book has been around for a while but I've been reading it with my son of late and wanted to share it with any of you who haven't yet read it with your children.

We've been enjoying the reading. The book is about a caterpillars journey from it's egg hatching through to becoming a beautiful butterfly and this is one mighty hungry caterpillar. The illustrations are stunning and it's got little holes in the images of all the food that the caterpillar eats through which the kids love looking at, sticking their fingers in -- if it's my son, even their tongues!

Through this book my son has learnt that caterpillars become butterflies and insists on watching all the caterpillars in our back yard should he miss seeing them turn into a butterfly. It's led to cocoon hunts in the yard, I am determined to find a cocoon for him to see, we're yet to hit success.

The book is full of color and wonderful images, also in the series are The Very Quiet Cricket and The Very Clumsy Click Beetle
