Frugal Easter Baskets and Decorating

What do you get when you cross an overanxious child with an Easter basket crammed full of chocolate bunnies, jelly beans and marshmallow chicks? A major-league stomachache just waiting to happen. If you'd like an inexpensive alternative to traditional baskets of sugary treats, why not make one yourself?

Buy the basics (baskets, plus colored cellophane, tissue paper and ribbon for wrapping) at a dime store or other discount store. Then fill the basket with craft supplies so children can
create their own Easter crafts--an especially great idea if the weather won't allow an outdoor Easter-egg hunt.

-Some simple drawings of bunnies, chicks, eggs or other Easter symbols on
lightweight cardboard. Let the kids color in the drawings, cut them out and decorate the house.

-Pieces of pink and white felt (or pastel-colored construction paper), some pastel pipe cleaners, cotton balls, white glue and child-safe scissors for making bunny cutouts.

-Plastic eggs and stickers for decorating them.
