Dyeing the Perfect Easter Egg

Painting Eggs with Food Color

This project will allow you to hand paint and dye the eggs at the same time.

In a small glass bowl, combine 10 drops of one color, 3/4 teaspoon of water and 3/4 teaspoon of vinegar. Paint hard bowled eggs or blown eggs with a paint brush.

Pastel Marble Egg

In a shallow glass bowl, combine 1/2 cup of boiling water, 2 teaspoons vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon oil and 4-8 drops Food Coloring. Gently roll each egg in mixture 30 seconds or until egg is the desired shade. Then transfer egg to second color mixture and repeat the process. Allow egg to dry completely, wipe away excess oil with paper towel.

Perfect Dye Colors

To make egg dye. Combine 1/2 cup of boiling water with 1/4 cup vinegar and drops of food dye specified below. Dip in for 5 minutes


Lime
24 yellow drops
4 green drops

Purple
15 blue drops
5 red drops

Cantaloupe
24 yellow drops
2 red drops

Jade
17 green drops
3 blue drops

Plum
10 red drops
4 blue drops

Spearmint
12 green drops
6 yellow & 2 blue drops

Maize
24 yellow drops
1 red drop

Watermelon
25 red drops
2 blue drops

Teal
15 green drops
5 blue drops

Grape
17 blue drops
3 red drops

Fuschia
18 red drops
2 blue drops

Jungle Green
14 green drops
6 yellow drops

Orange Sunset
17 yellow drops
3 red drops


Some Great Ideas to make special Eggs

Wrap rubber bands around eggs while dyeing to make a tie-dyed eggs.

Color with white crayons to have magic eggs.

Markers ad nice contrast to dye.
