Pretzel Prayers

refrigerator biscuits

The word 'pretzel" comes from the German word meaning "little arms". That's because monks created them as little prayer breads.

Many Christians of old and in some faiths today crossed their arms over their chests to pray. So the monks made dough `snakes', crossed them over like little arms into the pretzel shape we now know so well and made even eating "Our Daily Bread" a symbol of our faith in God. They often gave them to the poor and shared their faith.

Use one biscuit per person, roll it into a long snake and fold it into a criss-cross pretzel shape. Bake (usually a little less time than the package recommends) and eat. But don't forget to say grace!
