Fun In Everyday Things

Celebrate small accomplishments like '100 on a math test' or 'did well in the school play' by making a favorite meal for the honoree. Make a small medallion (card board, tinfoil and ribbon) for the honoree to wear also. Look for things to celebrate!

Celebrate your family's heritage. Prepare foods from that ethnic group. Look at old pictures. Check out books and videos from the library to learn more about the ethnic background of your family. Don't forget to invite grandma and grandpa!

Read a play with your family! Find a play that is age appropriate. Each family member can read a part. Mom and dad can help the real little ones. Kids love this!

Rewrite the words to a familiar song! For example, take Jingle Bells and turn it into a song about your family: "The John-son's; the John-son's; They live in the coun-tryeeŠ" You can get really goofy!

Have your kids dress up and invite them to tea! Create small invitations for each of them. Use little dishes if available. Pour juice for the kids and have some special 'tea' treats- miniature cookies/cakes.
