Girls are Different Than Boys?

By Kristie Murphy

It had never occurred to me what repercussions I might have to face for "running around" with a girl-friend who had a son. You see, I have four daughters. Which had never asked any questions about their genetalia. I had never been faced with the question "Why are girls different then boys?" They were never regularly around any little boys other than at school. My friend's son however, age 4, had a fascination with the word "penis". My girls still had not asked any questions regarding this issue. Then one day as I walked into a local store, I had just put the two younger girls into a basket and my seven year-old was pushing. Moments later at the front of the store, near the check-outs and service desk... I hear her start yelling, "Ououch!! Mom, she just kicked me in my penis." As she doubled over in pain. You can only imagine the looks as I stood in utter shock, trying not to laugh as I explained to her only little boys have penis's. Never again will I await a question to explain to my girls, why and how girls are different from boys.

About the Author: I am a working mother of five (the youngest an infant son). Between the yelling, fighting, and screaming...from home and the job I try to find time for myself. The easiest way is by writing. I get to keep records of wonderful memories and hopefully make others laugh while I am at it. kmurphy1@kscable.com
