Forrest Gump has come to be a symbol of running in recent
years. The image of Forrest running across America made
many people rethink the power and entertainment value of
running as a sport.
Other people may run to keep in shape, and for them,
Forrest Gump added to this image. Running cannot be
discussed, however, without thinking about the shoes
needed for the sport.
When I was in high school, I was active in a lot of
sports. I had one shoe regardless of that day's sport. I
even ran in these shoes. They didn't cost much, especially
in comparison to the big name brands that were out there.
I used them because I could afford them, and they would
let me hone my body.
It was a time when I started to hear the name of the big
producers of sport shoes like: Puma, Nike, Adidas, Reebok,
and so on. Of course I couldn't afford any of these shoes,
and I always wondered what is so special about them that
make them be so expensive.
That image made me envy the other kids who could get these
shoes. Although I wanted them, I didn't believe I needed
them. I accepted the images the shoe companies created but
thought that was what made the shoes special.
While many people purchase these shoes based on the image
created from sports stars or others marketing the shoes,
the shoes actually have great quality. These shoes come
with guarantees and are good for the wearer's feet
although that is not part of the marketing "image."
After a few days of feeling the comfort in my own feet, I
went for a run through the park. I can only say that it
was an excellent feeling. I felt very comfortable, safe
and surprisingly, my feet seemed to sweat less.
Shoe designers are making more features available to the
general public for affordable prices. Athletes use
special, and often very expensive, shoes to keep their
feet protected. Now, some shoe makers will release those
shoes. One example is a shoe with a sole that can detect
the surface one is walking on. The sole will become harder
or softer depending on the surface. These shoes will
protect the foot and leg muscles.
So, the extra expense for these shoes is for the
marketing, but you are also paying for the higher quality.
The shoes themselves provide great quality and make your
feet feel better. They also provide better research and
make better shoes, and that's where part of the cost comes
in.
